Description

Position: Respiratory Therapist - Inpatient

 

Location: Inpatient

 

Schedule: 36 Hours, Nights, EOW, EOH

  

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality respiratory care. Through a patient-centered approach, you will be supported by a collaborative healthcare team and advanced clinical resources, empowering you to assess, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions while providing compassionate care that promotes optimal patient outcomes.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver respiratory care services, including assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for individuals with cardiopulmonary conditions
  • Administer respiratory therapies and treatments, including oxygen therapy, nebulizers, and ventilator management, ensuring patient safety and comfort
  • Monitor and assess patient response to treatments, adjusting care plans as appropriate in collaboration with the healthcare team
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, healthcare team members, patients, and their families regarding treatment plans and patient progress
  • Respond to medical emergencies throughout the facility, providing critical respiratory support as needed
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment to ensure proper function and readiness
  • Update and manage patient records, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of care and treatments
  • Enter and interpret computerized data and patient information as required
  • Adhere to all BMC departmental guidelines, protocols, and safety standards related to respiratory care
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care
  • Assist leadership with departmental initiatives and quality improvement projects as needed

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy
  • Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT) credential required
  • Current Respiratory Therapist license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • 5+ years of recent experience in a Level 1 trauma facility strongly preferred
  • Recent critical care experience in both MICU and SICU settings
  • Demonstrated experience with lung protective ventilation strategies
  • Experience participating on Code Blue teams and responding to critical emergencies
  • Ability to make ventilator management decisions based on patient assessment and laboratory results
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory care practices, equipment operation, and patient monitoring
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities, including standing for extended periods and assisting patients
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with respiratory equipment and electronic medical records systems
  • Fluency in another language is a plus

Preferred Exp: Level III NICU, Drager XL and v500 Vents
